Army Leadership Embraces Environmental Conservation with Collaborative Tree Planting Exercise

The Nigerian Army, in partnership with Julius Berger, NCF, and FRIN, took part in a tree planting event at Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Abuja. This initiative underscores a commitment to environmental conservation and a greener Nigeria.

In a powerful demonstration of commitment to environmental conservation, the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), and the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN), organized a significant tree planting exercise. The event took place at the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment in Giri, Abuja, on August 15, 2025, under the theme: “Root of Strength, Branches of Peace (Planting Today for a Secured Tomorrow)”.

A Collaborative Effort for a Greener Future

The event was graced by Maj. Gen. U.G. Ogeleka, the Commander of Nigerian Army Space Command, represented by Brig. Gen. E.L. Etuk, who welcomed the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. O.O. Oluyede. This collaboration highlights the synergy between military leadership and environmental stewardship, showcasing the shared goals of the Nigerian Army, Julius Berger, NCF, and FRIN in building a sustainable and secure future for Nigeria.

High-Level Participation for a Meaningful Cause

The ceremony was attended by several key figures, including:

  • Balarabe Abbas Lawal, Hon. Minister of Environment, represented by Mr. Mahmud Adam Kambari, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment.
  • Zacharia B. Yaduma (Ph.D.), the Director-General of FRIN.
  • Representatives from Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, including Mr. Emmanuel Isibor.
  • Mr. Mohammed Garba Boyi, Zonal Coordinator, Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF).
  • Dr. Joseph Onoja, Provosts of FRIN Colleges, Dr. Christopher Nwadike, and staff from FRIN Liaison Office in Abuja.

Their presence reinforced the importance of cross-sector collaboration in tackling pressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainability through practical action
