FCFM Afaka donated 1,200 tree seedlings to support Kaduna State’s 10 million tree planting initiative led by Gov. Mallam Uba Sani. The initiative focuses on combating deforestation and promoting sustainable development.
In an inspiring move toward environmental conservation and climate action, Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Uba Sani, has launched an ambitious initiative to plant 10 million trees across the state. In support of this bold initiative, the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation Afaka Kaduna (FCFM Afaka), under the leadership of Dr. Patrick Boni, the Provost, has donated 1,200 tree seedlings as part of the first phase of the project
The donation of the 1,200 tree seedlings marks a significant step in the broader effort to combat deforestation and promote sustainable forestry practices across the state. The seedlings were officially received by Yusuf Idris, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Climate Change, who expressed his appreciation for the college’s timely contribution to the initiative.
Idris assured the public that the seedlings would be distributed to communities across Kaduna State, with local residents actively involved in the planting process. This community-based approach ensures widespread participation and strengthens local engagement with the initiative.
Dr. Christopher Ariyo, Deputy Provost of the college, expressed his well wishes for the successful growth of the trees, noting that they hold tremendous potential not only for improving the environment but also for economic sustainability. The initiative is expected to boost local economies by fostering opportunities in forestry, agriculture, and eco-tourism, while also helping to mitigate the effects of climate change.
This effort is part of a broader push to create sustainable, green spaces in Kaduna State, enhancing the state’s environmental resilience while also providing economic benefits for its citizens.
The 10 million trees planting initiative is more than just an environmental program; it represents a collaborative effort between government agencies, local communities, and institutions like FCFM Afaka to address the growing environmental challenges facing Nigeria. By involving local populations in tree planting and care, the initiative fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility for preserving the environment
